Some reflections from Dr. Jaffe on people and psychotherapy...

My philosophy.

During the twenty plus years that I have worked with people I have learned many things about the human mind, heart and spirit. Probably, the first and most important lesson I've learned is that we are all more alike than different. What we all want are basically the same things, however, not in the same order of importance. What we want, at the most basic level is the following: To feel love and loved; to be safe, physically, emotionally and spiritually; to be content when we are alone and when we are with others; to be part of something greater than ourselves; to be aware of our own creative nature, and to be able to use our creativity for our own benefit as well as others.

If this is true, why do so few of us have these things? Why do so many of us struggle and why are so many of us downright unhappy? The goal of psychotherapy is not just to answer these questions in a philosophical sense, but to find answers that fit us in a personal way, and to find methods that help us create a satisfying and worthwhile life.

This website is dedicated to answering some of the most important questions that you may have about who you are, what gets in your way from becoming and being your best, and what you can realistically do to create the positive changes in your life that you need to be happy.

My experience treating so many people over the years and being flexible in my approach is not the only thing that separates me from other therapists. I have also had years of my own psychotherapy. Growing up in an unhealthy family environment myself, and going through a painful divorce in my early thirties caused me to seek out my own therapy, which helped me with my own self-esteem and addiction issues. Now, twenty-odd years later, I know the value of psychotherapy both as a giver and receiver that uniquely qualifies me as an effective empathetic healer.
